It’s been great to see the uptick in women and non-binary persons spinning the decks professionally on live streams, but the obstacles to getting real-life hands-on experience in DJing as a beginner are still there. In many ways, it’s as difficult as ever for women to find their feet in this male-dominated sphere.
At SLIK collective we’re inviting you to tackle those obstacles head on by coming together at our beginner Women in Techno workshop at Kraftwerket Copenhagen.

The Workshop offers:

• An introduction to the equipment a DJ uses
• A look at what programs you can use at home (even without a physical mixer)
• A run-down on how to mix songs
• Time to try out our equipment and mix some of your own songs

We want the workshop to be a safe space to connect and make friends with like-minded people - in essence, there will be no mansplaining, no such thing as a stupid question, no age restrictions, no judgment when it comes to your taste in music and (sorry guys) no cis-males allowed!
The workshop is for free and will be held in English. I speak a decent amount of Danish though, so feel free to ask questions in Danish if that’s more comfortable for you.
You don’t need to have any experience in DJing whatsoever to join the Workshop!

About your host:

Sonja is from Germany but has been living in Copenhagen for a number of years. She has been DJing as a hobby for quite some time. She’s had the chance to play lots of different parties and a Festival. However, she’s also noticed that she’s been put on the line-up first at gigs just because she’s a woman when the crowd hasn’t yet arrived and there’s no one to dance with ;(
SLIK was born out of Sonja’s realisation that something has to change in the industry and that she wanted to do something to spark that change. She will show you that there’s nothing to fear behind the DJ desk, she will teach you all the technical tricks there are to learn.
