A Space For Living Art
Despite their creativity and cultural influence, they aren’t prominent in traditional gallery spaces. In the Space for Living Art we seek to challenge that. Our gallery’s doors are open to tattoo art, acknowledging its legitimacy and influence in today’s culture as a powerful form of artistic expression.
The exhibition highlights tattoos as art, and explores the intimate relationship between the artists and their living canvases. A tattoo cannot exist without the body that carries it, and the tattoo artist cannot create the work of art without the body of the person receiving the it. The consequences of a living canvas make tattooing a unique art form: living, moving, and ever-changing with the body it inhabits. A tattoo is a deeply personal visual expression shaped by individual experience, memory, and identity.
Tattoos evolve as the skin ages, as the body changes, and as life itself unfolds. Unlike a painting or sculpture, they cannot be separated from the person who wears them. In this sense, every tattoo carries not only an aesthetic dimension but also a narrative one.
Because of the nature of this specific art form, questions arise concerning the space where the tattoo is created, the trust and the chemistry between the artist and the person receiving the tattoo.
Rather than offer definitive answers, the exhibition invites reflection, while celebrating the beauty, intimacy, and sense of community embodied in tattoo culture.
It is, above all, a space for living art.
